A
Closer Look at Martin's
June 25, 2007
On
August 30, 2006, Martins Food Market moved from the Freedom Shopping
center off of route 26 and into the impressive new 76,000 square
foot building at 1320 Londontown Boulevard.
Martin’s
is one of three large supermarkets in the area. Safeway is located
at 1313 Londontown Boulevard and Food Lion at 6375 Monroe Avenue.
Included
in the store are a number of basic departments such as a bakery,
deli, meat department, produce department, seafood department and
dairy. However, it is the quality of the goods which Martin’s
claims is one their defining features as a store.
In
order to provide the “quality” service and products
that they pledge in their motto, Martin’s Eldersburg store
features some of the most advanced technology a shopping center
can have. Upon entering the store, customers will find Easy Scan
stations set up for their use. The Easy Scan system involves a small
handheld scanner which customers can carry with them around the
store and scan their items. This allows customers to see what their
total currently and easily make their purchases without the hassle
of waiting in line. This type of system is reserved for people who
register to use the scanners at the store. Martin’s Eldersburg
is the only Martin’s food store in Maryland to use this equipment.
All Safeway and Giant stores in Maryland also lack the handheld
technology.
Also
provided within the Eldersburg Martin’s store is a marketplace
where free Wi-Fi internet service is provided to anyone who wishes
to work while enjoying food from the hot bar or Bucks Coffee.
Bucks
County Coffee is another addition to the store from its transfer
across route 26. Bucks Coffee sells a variety of coffee based drinks
as well as some accessories. The Eldersburg Martin’s is the
only location in Maryland that people may enjoy Bucks County Coffee.
If
parents want to leave their kids under proper supervision so that
they are not bothered while shopping, they are able to drop their
kids off at the “Tree House”, where a number of certified
child care providers will watch over children while their parents
use the stores facilities.
In
the rear of the store a “Chef’s Corner” is ironically
located in the center of two aisles. Here, talented chefs prepare
a number of recipes which customers can sample and learn to make
them at home.
Healthy
living and the wellbeing of customers is important to Martin’s,
as is evident by the Organic section of the store and the health
lessons available. The Organic section is comprised of Giant brand
products made from organic products which are healthier and produced
by natural means. Lessons on health awareness are offered by the
store nutritionist.
Also
in the spirit of good health, a pharmacy is located next to the
floral department in the store. The pharmacy is just another addition
besides the toys aisle and electronics aisle, which aim to make
Martin’s a one stop shop for Eldersburg residents.
