Rogue Runners Profile

Encouraging runners across the southern Carroll area, the Eldersburg Rogue Runners organization has been sponsoring and supporting track & field and cross country athletes as well as running enthusiasts since 2003. The Rogue Runners is a non-profit organization for southern Carroll County and is loosely affiliated with the Freedom Area Recreation Council. The Rogue Runners has sponsored numerous running enthusiasts, athletes, and teams for marathons and meets, including a trip to New York City for high school cross country athletes to participate in the Footlocker Cross Country Championships. It is the goal of the organization to provide training and sponsoring for athletes looking to compete on any level in running competition.

Not only does Rogue Runners provide assistance to athletes, but local high school programs as well. Assistance is offered in raising funds for running events and providing equipment and gear for athletes. The Rogue Runners have proven their unsurpassed love for running and its important health benefits. During the summer, the Rogue Runners provide transportation to a summer retreat for runners who wish to train for the fall.

The Rogue Runners has experienced a number of changes since their creation in 2003. Six members, including five founding board members such as former ERR President Peter Lester, have since left the organization, but have been replaced. The number of members, as well, has been on the rise since their foundation. Most of these members come from Liberty High School, but membership is open to anyone in the area.

Soon, the Rogue Runners will be sponsoring athletes for the Frederick Marathon and, later in May, the high school state championships. Other events rapidly approaching include the Parkinson’s 5k Road Race and the Summer Retreat. The Eldersburg Rogue Runners will be posting results of each event, as they have done for all high school meets as well over the past few years.

The impact that the Rogue Runners have on the community is substantial. Virtually all of the local runners are

in some way familiar, if not affiliated, with the Rogue Runners. Having a group dedicated to serving the community in the manner that they do gives local runners and high schools an edge over the competition. However, the Rogue Runners can be summed up as “fun” before anything else, building a stronger community through the activity.
