Bingo Creates New Eldersburg Millionaires
 New
statistics show a dramatic increase in the number of millionaires
in Eldersburg, mostly attributable from Basket Bingo winnings. Silicon
Valley has its tech millionaires and Texas has its oil barons, Eldersburg
is now becoming known for its Basket Bingo wealth. There are now
an estimated 3,000 Basket Bingo millionaires in Eldersburg, roughly
1 in 10 people with a combined net worth of over $4.7 billion. That
accounts for over half of the net worth in Eldersburg.
Basket Bingo has traditionally been a fundraiser for prizes and
low stakes. But within the past few years, Basket Bingo cash prizes
and participants have spiraled out of control. What once were just
baskets of token prizes are now baskets of cash. Average recent
winnings at local Basket Bingo events range from $50,000 to $200,000
for grand prizes with many more cash payouts. The events have generated
a fever and driven normal TV addicts and homebodies to venture out
to get their fair share.
As a result, the Basket Bingo winnings are creating a class of those
who play and are reaping windfalls of money and enjoying the good
life in Eldersburg. As expected, a trickle down effect has stirred
through the community with real estate prices skyrocketing, relationships
tested, and soul-searching now part of everyday life.
"Jenny Lawson and I used to be best friends, but that's just
kaput now that she's gone off to last Saturday's Bingo without telling
me and won $25,000. I just know I could have won at least that had
she told me." Family members have been accused of hiding local
papers with listings.
Winnings have trickled down through the community. Local businesses
are flourishing, donations are up, and schools are well funded.
