Despite some last-minute snowflakes mixed into March rainfall, spring is soldiering onward as usual in Eldersburg!  The early flowers are here, the birds are building their nests, and the bugs are emerging from wherever they were hiding all winter.

As Eldersburg residents finish their spring cleaning and shift their focus to lawns and gardens, there are many excellent local resources for them to call upon.

For those in need of a full-service garden center, there is Dick’s Lawn & Garden Center at 1949 Liberty Road in Eldersburg (phone: 410-795-3990) and also Village Gardens Inc at 935 W Liberty Road (phone: 410-549-8788).

With questions about existing plants, potential plants, and pests, residents can always call or email a Master Gardener through the Home and Garden Information Center at the University of Maryland Extension:  http://www.hgic.umd.edu/.  Their number is 1-800-342-2507.

On April 9 and 10 there is the Annual Carroll County Home & Garden Show at the Agricultural Center in Westminster.

Show hours are Saturday, April 9, 2011 from 9am to 5pm and Sunday, April 10, 2011 from 11am to 4pm.  The event is taking place in Shipley Arena, with a $4 adult admission (ages 12 and under are free).  Children's activities are offered, and 4-H Learning Stations will be open all day Saturday and Sunday.
