The Carroll Eagle and Eldersburg.Net are teaming up for the seventh annual Eldersburg Photo Contest, open to residents in the 21784 ZIP code and the Carroll County portion of Marriottsville.

We’re looking for photos that depict life in our community — and you could win one of several prizes: first prize, $100; second prize, $50; third prize, $25; as well as additional prizes for winners in various categories (see below).

All photos submitted, regardless of categories, will be judged for Overall Best.

Ready, Aim, Shoot

Starting Nov. 13, 2011, send color or black-and-white photos. Entries must be in digital format, and sent via e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , by December 4, 2011 (extended deadline).

Photos must have been taken within the past 12 months and taken in the greater Eldersburg area. There’s a limit of four photo entries per person.

Be sure to include the following information with your entry: Name, address, contact phone number, a brief description of the picture and category you wish the photo to be entered in. Photos submitted without contact information will not be entered in the contest. Categories are:

  •  Landscape: Landscapes, nature, wildlife, sunsets, lakes, forests, outdoors, etc.
  • Still Life & Architecture: Buildings, landmarks, non-living items and objects, man-made structures
  • People: Any photo that features a person or a group of people as a main focus.
  • Ages 13 and younger: Our “Young Photographer” category; photos taken by a resident age 13 or younger.


All entries will be posted on Eldersburg.Net for family members, friends and neighbors to view and vote. Voting will begin Dec. 7, 2011 and will end Dec. 14, 2011.

Final determination of winners will be a blended rating of the online voters and a judging panel.
A reception will be held to reveal the winners of the contest:

The event will be open to the public. Winners will also be announced in the Eagle, and at Eldersburg.Net.

Some rules ...

All entries must be received in digital format in either .jpg, .tif, or .bmp file format. File size limit is 2 MB. Photo editing should be limited to basic color and size correction.

Photo entries must be taken within the 21784 ZIP code, or in the Carroll County portion of Marriottsville.
Photo entries will be judged on aesthetic merit and how they represent the Eldersburg-Sykesville area. Entries may only be submitted by persons living and/or working in the 21784 ZIP.

The decisions of the judges will be final. All entries become the property of Eldersburg.Net, their parent company Advantage Internet Marketing, the Carroll Eagle and Baltimore Sun Media Group. Employees of Eldersburg.Net, Advantage Internet Marketing, the Carroll Eagle and BSMG are not eligible.
