Bordner Commits to Boston College
July 6, 2009
Kevin Hudson

Century High School rising senior Josh Bordner caught the attention of several Division I colleges after his first season as starting quarterback for the Knights, but as of last week, his college search is over.
Bordner verbally committed to Boston College, more than a month before his senior year begins.
Last year, Bordner received a crash course in quarterback training since he had previously played wide receiver and linebacker. The transition was an astounding success. The Knights posted their first undefeated season and a trip to the state semi-finals where their efforts were thwarted by a superb River Hill squad.
Nonetheless, Bordner earned a few statistical accolades along the way. He passed for more than 2,200 yards and scored a total of 28 touchdowns. He was named first team All-County by the *Carroll County Times *for his quarterback and linebacker performances.
Although the decision was made quickly, Bordner explained, "It was exciting and it got very stressful very fast."
Bordner's appearance at the four-day BC football camp apparently impressed the coaches, and on his campus visit, Bordner was impressed in return.
"The campus visit I had was very good. I got to see the stadium and went through the locker rooms, the weight room, and the coaches' area, and everything was so nice," Bordner recalled.
BC was urgently in pursuit of Bordner because, "[the Recruiting Coordinator Ryan Day] said he was really nervous that I was going to go to Maryland," Bordner explained, "So I just told him, 'I'm not going to [UMD], and I'm done looking at other schools. BC is where I want to be.'"
The decision was made.
His early commitment will not affect his final athletic escapade at CHS. He will still play linebacker, basketball in the winter, and baseball in the spring.
"It takes a lot of pressure away from this next season," Bordner said. While the rest of the senior class at CHS worries about college applications, he can relax knowing his future is already exacted.
While Bordner clearly excels on the football field, he never overlooks academics. In fact, he admitted that BC's reputation of excellent academics played a role in his decision to commit.
"I know their academics are extremely important to them, so I will get a good education," Bordner said.
BC's rigorous academic standard combined with their pro-factory football program proves that Bordner and BC might be the perfect marriage.
BC went 9-5 last year and finished in second place in the Atlantic Coast Conference, Atlantic division.
Bordner, in his freshman year, explained that he expects to travel with the team and learn as much as he can.
Whether Bordner will be the next big player to come out of BC cannot be determined at this point, but no matter how successful he is, the effects on Carroll County will be positive. Local athletes can thank Bordner for opening the window to Carroll County athletics.
