A Historic Knight
November 10, 2008

The crowds from Liberty and Century came in full force on Friday night for an intense cross-town matchup and the final regular season game of the season.

The Knights looked to become only the second team in Carroll County football history to record a perfect season.

History was made with a final score of 34-17.

The Lions (7-3) came into the game with the hopes of capping off a solid season, and more importantly, knocking CHS off the victory train they have been riding all season.

The story for the Knights was the same as it has been all season, they dominated the second half. In fact, at halftime, CHS only had one touchdown (Cory Anderlik 35-yard interception return), and was trailing 10-7 primarily to a LHS run attack that they could not get a handle on.

The second half Knights did not look like the same team that played the first half. Quarterback Josh Bordner commanded the offense, throwing strikes and marching the Knights down the field from the moment the whistle was blown for the start of the third quarter.

Bordner finished the game with 160 yards, 76 percent completion, and a touchdown scamper. He threw strikes to six different receivers.

The rushing attack for the Knights seemed to be out of order, but LHS had no problem taking to the ground. In the first half alone, the Lions racked up 129 yards with the dynamic combination of rushers Ethan Dorsey (95 yards) and Geoff Suddath (80 yards), giving the Knights a scare. The scare was overcome.

The only other Carroll County team to achieve a perfect season was the North Carroll team of 1978. Josh Bordner, Cory Anderlik, and receiver Luke Wright will be known in Knight history as the triple threat offensive powerhouse that agonized defenses every Friday night during the 2008 season.

The other underlying storyline in this convoluted, breathtaking CHS season was the lack of school spirit. And in the wake of a huge rivalry game, the fanbase is critical. Both the Lion's and Knight's fans drowned the stadium at CHS with excitement. Both student sections were on their feet the entire time, erupting with every sign of success for their respective team.

But the LHS fans were silenced as the clock ticked the final seconds of the 2008 season. The only sound in the stadium at that point was the CHS students chanting "Undefeated", and the ring of the "LHS Bell", a blue bell on wheels that is given to the winner of this rivalry game.

Both teams have clinched a spot in the playoffs. The Knights have the number one seed, being conference and county champions. Coincidentally, the Knights play LHS again next week for the first playoff game, at CHS.

So, the Lions have been given a shot at redemption.
