In an effort to reach attract new visitors and entice them to return, Sykesville’s Gatehouse Museum will be expanding its exhibits in the coming months.
The expansion is possible due to a recent increase in volunteers, which has given the museum’s curator, Errol Smith, an opportunity to change exhibits every few weeks.
Next month, the museum plans to display new exhibits, including a hands-on toy collection and a feature on life in early twentieth-century Sykesville. The museum also plans to host a special Civil War celebration on September 26 from 1-4 pm. The event will include a performance by the Late Unpleasantness Players, a group of re-enactors from the Pipe Creek Civil War Roundtable of Carroll County.
The museum is also seeking donations, particularly Civil War-era artifacts. Donations do not need to be permanent and may be returned.
The Sykesville Gatehouse Museum is open 10 am – 5pm on Mondays and Wednesdays 1-4 pm on Sundays.
