The State Highway Administration (SHA) recently began a $1.2 million intersection improvement at Klee Mill and Liberty Rd.
While an improvement on MD 26, this is not part of the Liberty Rd. improvement project also being done by the SHA. That project still remains on hold because of lack of funding.
According to a press release, the SHA plans to add dedicated left turn lanes to the intersection along with an advanced turn 'green arrow,' that eases the possibility of making a left turn during peak drive times. In addition to this the SHA will add acceleration and deceleration lanes to the intersection. The intersection improvements are set to be completed next spring.
Drivers can expect lane closures Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. "Approximately 24,000 vehicles travel on this section of MD 26 daily, motorists should plan for extra travel time during work hours," the release stated.
Kibler Construction Company is the contractor in charge of the project.
