On Monday night, an apparently opportunistic thief got away with some cash in Eldersburg.
Around 8 pm, a customer in the Sunoco at the corner of Liberty Road and Georgetown Boulevard was collecting his proceeds from a winning lottery ticket, and someone nearby snatched the money and ran.
The lottery ticket owner chased the thief, who dropped some of the money, then escaped with the rest. The robbery was reported at 8:23 p.m., and the Sunoco was closed for several hours for investigation.
Police are investigating the incident; anyone with information about the case should call the Maryland State Police at 410-386-3000.
