Subway, Dunkin' Donuts robbed in past week

Three robberies, possibly committed by the same suspect, occurred in Eldersburg in the past week.

On Sunday the Subway in the Country Village Shopping Center was robbed at around 7:45 p.m., according to a Maryland State Police press release. Police could not disclose the amount of money stolen. Last week on Wednesday, a robbery occurred at the Dunkin’ Donuts located across the street from Subway, where according to store employees no less than $500 was stolen. Most recently, Dunkin' Donuts was robbed again on Tuesday at about 6 p.m.

“We believe they were committed by the same person,” said Sgt. Eways of the Maryland State Police.

Eways described the suspect as a white male in his early to mid 20s, often wearing jeans and a hooded sweatshirt with a bandana covering his face. The suspect has a blunt approach to entering establishments which he plans to rob, often wearing the aforementioned garb before he even enters the building.

“The thing [residents] need to be aware of is he walks into stores looking like that,” Eways mentioned.

Dunkin’ Donuts employees, who did not wish to be named, described the suspect as having a mustache and wearing a baseball cap backward and turned slightly off center.

The robber stood outside Dunkin' Donuts last Wednesday and waited for the last customer to leave before entering at about 8:30 p.m., the only employee who was working the counter that night said. According to the employee the robber wielded a black knife that was about a foot long. He jumped on the counter, pointed the knife at the worker and reached for the cash in the register himself, not allowing the employee to touch it. The entire event lasted only about 5 minutes, the employee said. The robber left on foot and headed east down MD 26 toward 7/11, the employees mentioned.

The robberies in Eldersburg could possibly be related to similar robberies that occurred in Baltimore and Anne Arundel Counties, Sgt. Eways said. He could not disclose addition information about those incidents.
