FACC
Goals
June 14, 2007
The Freedom Area Citizen’s Council has announced the priorities
for Southern Carroll County for 2007. These priorities, issued in
a letter on February 26, 2007, have been posted on the Freedom Area
Citizens Council website. View
the letter
Initially,
the FACC is planning on following up on unfinished priorities set
last year. Primarily, the FACC hopes that a “water board”
will be created in order to represent interests in fixing issues
with the Liberty Reservoir, as well as the State’s wells at
Springfield and Moxley. Also unfinished in 2006 was negotiations
between the FACC and the Security Development Corporation. Most
important on the agendas of both last year and this year are road
improvement and economic development. Final plans as of now have
not been submitted for the intersection of routes 32 and 26. Road
work is also important for Georgetown Boulevard and over at Progress
Way, as the intersection with Progress Way becomes increasingly
trafficked due to the amount of development occurring in that area.
Economic development plans focus mainly on making the Warfield complex
the number one site for jobs in southern Carroll.
Aside
from continuing on previous FACC goals, new priorities have been
set for 2007. A major issue for the FACC is the representation of
the Freedom Area. The FACC encouraged that the Freedom Area has
two additional commissioners; a plan proposed by the Redistricting
Committee. This would increase the total of commissioners for the
area from 3 to 5. This issue was brought up in 2006 elections, but
has died out since. Next mentioned in the priorities list for the
FACC is intensifying the aesthetic quality of the freedom area gateways.
The FACC holds the opinion that these gateways as of now are inadequate
and require reevaluation and correction. Also mentioned was the
possibility of tax credit given to businesses hired to construct
work on these gateways. In order to develop a master plan, the FACC
also encouraged that a set of guidelines be developed for future
development. Aside from setting guidelines, it was suggested that
the County set chain development plans in accordance to zoning districts.
The final thing on the order of business for 2007 was dealing with
traffic issues in the area. The majority of these concerns stem
from increased development the Freedom Area, which in turn creates
traffic problems.
The
FACC goals have been set for 2007 and anticipation is high for new
developments and improvements that will be coming to the Freedom
Area.
