Three
Firemen Injured While Eldersburg House Destroyed
July 8, 2006
Saturday
July 8th just after noon the Bosnic home at 1999 Alfalfa Court nearly
burned to the ground. Thick black smoke could be seen clearly from
Liberty Road as flames engulfed the roof of a once beautiful two
story colonial standing proudly on the corner of Cable and Alfalfa
streets in the Harvest Farm neighborhood of Eldersburg. The heat
was so intense from the garage fire that the neighbor’s house
suffered severe siding damage.
Firefighters
from Sykesville, Gamber, Winfield and
West Friendship fought gallantly and quickly conquered the blaze,
which lasted just over 30 minutes. The fire was classified as a
two alarm fire however specialized equipment was requested from
surrounding areas. Three firefighters were injured while putting
out the blaze including one, which was taken to the hospital by
ambulance. His condition is not known at this time.
After mowing
the yard one family member was in the shower and was alerted by
the smoke of smoke alarms. Realizing the garage was on fire sources
say the occupant immediately left and called 911. The exact cause
of the blaze is not known at this time although the fire appeared
to have centered in and around the garage.
These pictures
illuminate the damage caused by the fire. The weather was kind as
there was essentially no wind fueling the fire, which helped minimize
the damage to adjoining properties.
