December 29, 2009
Eric Villard
Looking
to shed some pounds in the new year? Freedom Fitness will be hosting
a community open house of their facility in Carrolltown Mall on
Saturday, January 9.
The studio,
located next to Kmart, will be open to the public from 7:30 a.m.
to 2 p.m. Freedom Fitness is offering free workshops and classes
all day as well as providing education information on leading healthy
lifestyles.
The
schedule for the day is as follows:
7:30 a.m.
Zumba
Lets’s face it, working out can be healthy, rewarding, beneficial,
but it has never been known to be much fun; until now. Zumba fuses
hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a dynamic
workout system that will blow you away. The routines feature interval
training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training
are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add
some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you've
got ZUMBA! All levels welcome. Instructor: Carrie Coleman, NETA,
Zumba.
8:30 a.m.
Step Blast
Be
prepared to blast some fat! This motivating class will keep you
moving until the very end. This high-energy class can be high or
low impact; it is up to you. Instructor: Breanna Shumpert, NETA,
AFAA.
9:30 a.m.
Metabolift Weight Training Powerhouse Muscle Pump
An
overall body-pumping workout; strengthening and defining every major
muscle group. Not a cardio class, but guaranteed to get your heart
pumping. No choreography to learn, ideal for all. Instructor: Breanna
Shumpert, NETA, AFAA
11:00 a.m.
Intro to Zumba Workshop
This
is a taste of one of the hottest group fitness classes around. A
great way to learn what Zumba is and how Zumba can transform your
body. Instructor: Tracy Cox, NETA, AFAA, Zumba, Zumba Gold and Toning.
12:00 p.m.
Intro to Zumba Toning
Zumba
Toning says adios to traditional toning and takes the original Zumba
dance fitness class to the next level, utilizing an innovative muscle-training
protocol and the addition of light-weight toning sticks. Created
to emphasize muscle work along with rhythms, this combination of
dance-based cardio and dynamic resistive exercises is a highly-effective
training program. Instructor: Tracy Cox, NETA, AFAA, Zumba, Zumba
Toning.
1:00 p.m.
Intro to Pilates Workshop
A whole
body program with an emphasis in core strengthening for abdominal
and low back muscles. For increased body awareness and a challenge,
some classes incorporate Pilates circles, resist-a-balls and sponge
balls. Pilates tones and lengthens muscles, increases strength,
improves posture and flexibility. Instructor: Kim Crum Derr, NETA,
Pilates specialty.
Babysitting is provided for participants. All equipment is also
provided. The classes are known to fill up fast, so pre-registration
is encouraged. To register, call 410-795-9101 or email cox@freedomfitness.info.
