Gas Prices in Eldersburg Higher than Nearby Areas

The Eldersburg area has seen a dramatic increase in gas prices over the past several months. Reasons for this have varied but prices have shown no sign of dropping in the near future. Eldersburg is home to many different gas stations: Exxon, Texaco, Sunoco, BP and the 7-11 station. Originally two Crowns existed in the area, but both have since moved on; one becoming a Texaco and the other simply closing. Further west down Liberty road near Klee Mill road is a Shell station. South on 32 in Sykesville there exists a Total and another Shell station. Currently, gas prices are sitting around the lower $2.50 per gallon area, but that may change if trends continue. In comparison with other nearby cities, Eldersburg ranks near the more expensive areas. Westminster stations are as much as five cents cheaper per gallon. To the west of Eldersburg, Frederick has stations with prices as low as $2.35 per gallon. Gas prices in Columbia are somewhat worse, averaging in the mid $2.50’s price range. Inner city Baltimore hosts prices as low as the upper $2.40’s range but on the outskirts prices are in the upper $2.50’s.

The price of gas in the past month has increased in both the Baltimore area which Eldersburg falls under and the U.S. average. The pattern of increase is almost exactly consistent between the two, as is most likely a result of current political issues. As of Wednesday, March 14, 2007, the price of gas in the Baltimore area is about nine cents lower than the national average, sitting at $2.49 per gallon.

When comparing the area to the national average over the past year Baltimore was originally above the average. This changed in early September when gas prices were falling significantly. Prices reach the lowest over the past year in late October, where they hung around the $2.07 per gallon mark. Prices have been rising since late January.
