Health Expo Brings Home the Bacon!

Saturday’s rainy weather didn’t dampen the spirit of the many performers and presenters at the Freedom Fitness and Health Expo 2006 held Saturday February 4th at Liberty High School.

The Freedom Fitness Health Expo is an annual event previously held near Freedom Fitness in the Carrolltown Mall. Freedom Fitness offers and assortment of classes and programs to help Eldersburg residents get and stay fit.

Ironically, Freedom Fitness ran the Bake Sale booth at the Expo. Pictured are M K Bunting (left), Tracy Cox (owner of Freedom Fitness, center) and Dave Greenwalt. Readers may recognize Dave Greenwalt (Vice President of the Freedom Area Recreational Council and local icon).

This year the inside of the Carrolltowne Center mall is closed for renovation but people came to Liberty High School anyway. The public was treated to an abundance of information on everything from carpel tunnel to recognizing a the warning signs of a bad back, and even to information about a local medical supply house “Choice Medical” (Charles Hall pictured right). Many people were surprised that Choice Medical is located in Eldersburg across from Home Depot. Interesting enough, Choice offers medical equipment, diabetic supplies, and a wealth of ambulatory devices from walkers to braces and everything in between.

In addition to the health services and equipment, local businesses offered information including the Freedom Business Association and Carroll Senior Center to name a few. If you weren’t interested in products and services, performances by several of the local fitness related activities were offered.

The Freedom Fitness Dancers lead by Breanna Shumpert performed an invigorating routine which made this reporter realize winded following the group through the view finder in the video equipment.

Eldersburg parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors were treated several dance routines. Most notably was a performance called 1999 Aleta Held’s 4th grade students. Held also performed a beautiful solo dance as demonstration.
