 Two
Fires at the Abandoned Henryton Center
Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:15 PM the Sykesville Freedom
District Fire Department we called to the abandoned Henryton Center
in Marriottsville. Firefighters quickly responded to a call in the
garage behind the main buildings. According to Public Information
Officer Sergeant Bill Rehkopf, firefighters from Gamber, Winfield,
Baltimore County, Howard County, Ellicott City, Lisbon and Westfriendship
responded with tankers to transport much needed water. The fire
was quickly brought under control and extinguished. The cause of
the fire had not been determined however the Fire Marshall is performing
an investigation.
It
was clear to everyone at the scene that although  the
fire was relatively small in size, is was difficult to get to due
to the conditions at the Henryton Center and the overall state of
disrepair at the facility.
A second fire
was discovered inside a remote area of the complex approximately
150 yards away from the primary blaze. This fire was quickly extinguished
using hand carried tanks and equipment.
One
firefighter was treated on the scene, otherwise no injuries were
reported.
