District Lions Announce 2007 Scholarship Winners
June 18, 2007
On
June 6th, the Freedom District Lions Club awarded a $2000.00 scholarship
to Elizabeth Pickett at Liberty High School. She has been accepted
into the Pre-Medicine program at UMBC and plans to pursue a career
in the pharmaceutical area. She was involved in many diverse school
activities, including varsity cross country, indoor track and field,
and the Carroll County Student Government Association. She received
honorable mention from the Maryland Distinguished Scholars Board.
She is very active in the American Legion Auxiliary with her parents
and in church activities at St. Joseph’s church. She is the
daughter of Steve and Isabelle Pickett in Eldersburg.
On
June 7th, the Freedom District Lions Club awarded a $2000.00 scholarship
to Megan Garber at Century High School. She plans to attend the
University of MD at College Park, major in Computer Science and
pursue a career in computer programming. She was an active member
of the International Thespian Society, an officer in the National
Honor Society and a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Honorable Mention.
She earned a total of 995 community service hours while taking classes
at the honors and advanced placement level. She is the daughter
of William and Carole Garber in Sykesville.
