Freedom District Lions Welcome Honored Guests

The Freedom District Lions held their regularly scheduled meeting this past Wednesday however this was by no means a regular meeting.

Past International President Lion Clement Kusiak attended the meeting with a brief presentation about his experience as the International President and what it really means to be a Lion. Lion’s are recognized worldwide for their service to the community.

Honored guest Mike Dorsey spoke regarding his experiences volunteering and working at the Shoemaker Center. Mr. Dorsey’s presentation was extremely well done and included the history of the Shoemaker center and specifically the role of the Reverend Shoemaker in development of the 12 step program. Most people do not know that the Reverend Shoemaker is credited as the cofounder of the original 12 step program with the now famous Bill Wilson (Bill W.). The Freedom District Lions welcomed new member Jim Mullen to the club. New Lion Jim Mullen has been an active volunteer in the community for many years.

Past District Governor Lion Bob Miller was presented an award for outstanding community service as was Lion Polly Rosier.

The Freedom District Lions Club is one of the largest and most active Lions Clubs in the country and arguably the world. With approximately 65 members in the Sykesville, Eldersburg community you can see Lions serving the community is many ways.

Saturday August 25th the Freedom District Lions are hosting the areas first ever “Double Basket Bingo” event at the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Hall. This event promises to be exciting and entertaining for bingo lovers.
