STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE DEATH OF MISSING WESTMINSTER WOMAN
March 23, 2006

(Eldersburg, MD) – Although foul play is not suspected at this time, Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into the death of a woman who had been reported missing and was found by her husband yesterday in a wooded area near Eldersburg.

The woman is identified as Janet L. Seal, 44, of the unit-block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Westminster, Md. She was pronounced dead at the scene by a forensic investigator from the Office of the State Medical Examiner.

Shortly before 5:00 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police at the Westminster Barracks were summoned to a wooded area near the 1700-block of Bennett Road, Eldersburg, Md. Responding troopers found Seal’s body lying partially in a shallow creek that ran through the woods. She was fully clothed and there were no external signs of trauma to her body. State Police investigators and crime scene technicians processed the scene and found no immediate indications of foul play.

The woman’s body was found yesterday by her husband, Douglas G. Seal, of the same address, who reported her missing to State Police two days ago. Janet Seal had been staying with her grandfather, who lives in the 6600-block of Long Meadow Drive in Eldersburg. The grandfather told troopers two days earlier that he had seen her last at about 1:00 p.m. on March 20, 2006, when she left to go for a walk. The woods where Seal’s body was found is about one mile from her grandfather’s home, in an area isolated from residences and roads.

The body was transported to the Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy which is expected today. Immediate results are not expected, due to anticipated forensic and toxicology tests.

The investigation is continuing.
