Looking locally for great deals on brand name women’s clothing? Try the business park off of MD 26 – Nevrkno what you might find.

Nevrkno, tucked away in the outskirts of Eldersburg at 5340 Enterprise Street, is not the typical outlet clothing store. For one, it’s only about 2,500 sq. ft. of retail space. And two, the head-pounding fluorescent lighting typical of clothing stores has been replaced by tactfully placed chandeliers, pool table lights and, well, really every type of lighting imaginable. It caters to late teen, early twenties females and up, selling only brand name women’s fashion – clothing, shoes and accessories.

Size isn’t everything

Don’t let the square footage fool. Nevrkno packs a lot of merchandise into its humble halls. From swim suits to cashmere sweaters to handcrafted jewelry – from belts to scarves to handbags, the store is lined wall-to-wall with unique bargains. It carries such big-name apparel as Hurley, XOXO, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Coyote, Ralph Lauren, Espirit and Boutique 9.

The small size affords the store a more casual, relaxing and downright cozy atmosphere, one that is hard to find at larger outlet stores such as Marshall’s or TJ Max. As John Lynch put it, who owns Nevrkno in partnership with Marshall Rimerman and Tony Cinquegrani, “We are 2,500 sq. ft. of retail space… that has a broad selection of various sizes and styles.”

He added, “It’s in an atmosphere that is not a big-box, fluorescent-lit, rack after rack after rack of multiple sizes of clothing that you have to flip through for hours to find what you’re looking for.”

Lynch said the store was capable of adding 3,000 sq. ft., more than doubling its size and inventory. With this increased space could come increased possibilities such as children or men’s clothing options. Though Lynch stressed this depended on the success of Nevrkno in its current form.

The long journey home

But where does it all the stock come from? Lynch put it in terms of Coach handbags, commonly found at outlet stores such as Macy’s for upwards of $300. He explained that the lifecycle of one of these bags typically starts at an official Coach store, such as the one at Columbia Mall. From there it moves to a Coach outlet store. Finally, Nevrkno gets its hands on the product.

The chronicles of the handbag’s journey are witnessed on its price tag, which displays the retail price, the outlet store price and then Nevrkno’s price, in descending order. The end result? About a 40 to 50 percent cut in the original handbag price, according to Lynch. Of course, said Lynch, the path the handbag follows is typical of all the clothing and accessories in the store.

Nevrkno what you might find

The stock at Nevrkno is constantly shifting, said Lynch. “One week it could be bathing suits… and the next week it could be a whole new line of shoes,” he explained. He added that the store receives new products about every two weeks, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Consequently, the store is only open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, or by appointment.

With stock persistently swapping, it’s always good to have a lynchpin employee who can keep track of it. Michelle Esworthy, the store manager at Nevrkno, has an intimate knowledge of the establishment. Though the shop has only been open for about eight weeks, she said she’s been enjoying the job.

“It’s been great,” Esworthy said. “All the people who come in are really supportive.”

But what’s with the lighting?

The wide array of hanging luminance in the store, while slightly off-putting, adds to the charm of Nevrkno. Lynch explained the lighting fixtures were relics of the past, stock left over from when the store that formerly occupied Nevrkno’s space – CBS Lighting – closed down. The lights range from common to somewhat eccentric, including a massive hydraulically operated chandelier, an architecturally intriguing airplane shaped hanging fixture made from aircraft aluminum, and outdoor lighting of various shapes and sizes.
