MARYLAND STATE POLICE SEARCHING FOR POLICE IMPERSONATOR
August 27. 2008
From the Maryland State Police:
(Sykesville, MD) - Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into a complaint that an individual wearing police attire and identifying himself a Maryland State Trooper was soliciting donations for the State Police Aviation Division and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect is described as an African American male, 6’02” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds. He was wearing what appeared to be a uniform similar to that of a Maryland State Trooper.
The investigation began shortly after 11:00 a.m. today, when the suspect contacted a man at his residence in the 2800-block of Old Liberty Road in Sykesville. The suspect, carrying a black leather bag and a clipboard with what appeared to be Maryland State Police letterhead on it, stated that he was seeking donations on behalf of the Maryland State Police Aviation Division and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
The man who spoke with the suspect advised police investigators that he did not believe the man was a police officer, refused to make a donation, and immediately called the police. The suspect was last seen walking along Old Liberty Road. The complainant in this matter wishes not to be identified at this time. Troopers canvassed the area in an attempt to find the suspect, but were unable to locate him.
The Maryland State Police and the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office are not soliciting donations.
Anyone who may have come in contact with the suspect or believes they may have been illegally solicited for police donations are encouraged to notify the Maryland State Police or the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
