South Carroll Business Expo a Big Success

The first South Carroll Business Expo attracted close to 1,000 people to share a day full of entertainment, business, and community events on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Liberty High School.

Many people came to enjoy the entertainment, which included Liberty High School guitarist Russ Reitter, martial arts demonstrations by Tristar Martial arts and the Sykesville Tae Kwon Doe Academy, and the Merritt Dance Academy. There was also quite a bit of family entertainment throughout the Expo including clown artist Silly Willy, Magician David French, the State Farm Good Neigh Bear, the Frederick Keys Keyote, the Ravens mascot, and more.

The strong partnership between schools and the SCBA was shown by the ribbon cutting by superintendent of Carroll County Public Schools, Charles Ecker, and a speech given by Delegate Susan Krebs who discussed the partnership between schools, business, and government.

There were also close to 100 business booths set up as a trade show to showcase the wide business offerings that the South Carroll area has to offer. Businesses gave away free gifts, held drawings, showcased their products and services, and worked to increase their awareness in the community. Some of the booths had interactive displays and games, such as Merritt Health Club, which sponsored the game "Jump Ball" on the Cybex Trazer virtual exercise machine. Amie Bradley, a Pampered Chef sales director, held a cooking demonstration.

Expo Chair Jon Allen said the feedback from the Expo was overwhelmingly positive. "Attendees, business exhibitors, and performers all said that they were very pleased with how well attended the event was and how much fun it was." The SCBA, who put together the event, is planning to hold the event every year.
