According to Carroll County Public Schools Superintendent Stephen Guthrie, the proposed calendar for the 2011-2012 school year will include a six-day spring break for students. This will come at the expense of the currently week-long Thanksgiving break, which, under the proposed calendar, would only be Wednesday through Friday.
The changes are due to a change in teachers’ contracts, which now enables the school system to schedule four days of parent-teacher conferences after-school, rather than having to close school during November for the conferences. This frees up the Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving, allowing schools to remain open.
The Board of Education will vote on the proposed 2011-2012 calendar in October.
