Eighth grade students from Team 8 at Oklahoma Road Middle School participated in a simulated Congressional hearing during their class times on Monday, December 20, 2010. Students researched topics about Articles 1, 2, and 3 of the U.S. Constitution, the Articles of Confederation, and The Great Compromise in order to prepare an 'expert witness' speech before judges. Judges included Bruce Damasio and Alice Carichner (retired teachers from Liberty High School), Thomas Clowes (principal of Liberty High School), Delegate Susan Krebs and Senator Allan Kittleman from the Maryland General Assembly, and Donna Olszuwski, Social Studies Specialist from MSDE. Upon completion of the project, each student received a certificate from The Center for Civic Education (program sponsor). Eighth grade social studies teacher Robin Staub planned the hearing.
