The Linton Springs Elementary School Green Team will be featured on MPT’s live Volunteer-A-Thon for the Chesapeake Bay, which will be aired on Sunday, April 17, 2011, from 6 to 9 p.m. MPT videotaped a segment on the team at the school which will be the lead story for the program. In addition, several students will represent the team at the event to talk about their ability to impact the environment.

The Green Team at Linton Springs Elementary School has been in operation for the past two years. Eighty students participate in this after-school club, which is run by two volunteer teachers and a dedicated parent volunteer. Last year the team received grants from Nickelodeon, the Carroll County Public Schools Education Foundation, and the Linton Springs PTA to build a vegetable garden. The team also has worked around the school to improve the environment. Their projects have included reducing waste in the cafeteria with a “Waste Free Wednesday” campaign, establishing classroom recycling programs for everything from paper to glue sticks, and working to eradicate invasive weeds in the school wetland areas.
