Rugby Results
June 26, 2006
This
past Saturday in their first matches of the regular season, the
Sykesville / Eldersburg Freedom Fighters Youth Rugby Club met some
very experienced and strong sides in the Howard County Hurricanes,
the Bethesda Exiles, the Andover Apaches and the South Bowie Sharks
U-17 team. The matches were played at Freedom Park in Sykesville.
Our U-11's played
in a round robin format with the Hurricanes, the Exiles and the
Apaches. While no full games were played in this format, the Freedom
fighters played exceedingly well with tries coming from Julia and
Kathleen Malcotti, Gunnar Serra, Mikey Singer (2 with one on a beautiful
assist from Liz Gamble), Nick Bosley (2), Wesley Schneider (2),
Adam Biemiller (3) and Mikey Clements (3)
Unfortunately,
our inexperience at the upper levels showed a bit as our U-13 team
lost 56 to 5 to perennial powerhouse Howard Hurricanes, the lone
try coming on a Jay Willging effort.
In a bit of
a rebound, our U-17's lost to the South Bowie Sharks 53 to 31 in
a match much closer than the score indicates. Will Linscom led the
way with 3 tries, 3 conversions and an assist. Alan Kratz had a
try and an assist and Kenny Boyd a breakaway try. Steve Baker added
a strong assist.
We continue
our season this Saturday beginning at 10am with a home match at
Freedom Park hosting sides from West Carroll, Cape St. Clair, Ellicott
City and Washington. Visitors are welcome!
