Sunday, April 23, 2006 The Blue Knights, International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club, is a thirty-year-old organization, which is made up of Active and Retired, Law Enforcement Professionals. The purpose of this organization is to promote motorcycle safety and enjoyment, while providing an environment, which supports family and the community. The Blue Knights Motto is “Ride with Pride.” With this in mind, Blue Knights, Maryland IX, is conducting our second annual motorcycle ride for the wounded servicemen and women, who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan. The “Purple Heart Ride.” These brave young men and women are being cared for at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital. Our Police Escorted ride, travels from Sykesville, Maryland, to the Bethesda Naval Hospital. To participate, each rider must donate at least $25 (a greater amount if their heart so dictates). We will be taking these donations to the hospitals, where they will be given to the Armed Forces Foundation, to benefit these “Purple Heart” recipients. We are asking for the support of our communities, elected officials, bikers and friends to make this ride a large success and to demonstrate to these courageous men and women our undying gratitude and support. During last years ride the sight of over 150 motorcycles and riders moved these wounded soldiers, as well as raised funds for the Armed Forces Foundation. I am asking you to consider supporting this ride in several ways. First, pass along this information to your family, friends and colleagues. Ask them to donate what they can for this noble cause. Second, enlist the support of riders for the event. Finally, continue to pray for the safety of our troops who are in harms way, and those who have been wounded.
