If you're looking for delicious seafood in town - either for dine-in feasting or carryout - Captain Dan's should be on your list. Captain Dan's Crabhouse is both a seafood market and restaurant; both offer a fresh, tasty seafood selection.

The waterfront-themed restaurant offers a relaxing atmosphere with full-service seafood meals and feasts. Captain Dan's restaurant offers great tasting shrimp, crabs, fish, and seafood platters. The Maryland Cream of Crab soup is creamy, buttery, salty, full of flavor, with large chunks of crab meat, and very rich. The shrimp are good-sized and spicy. Snow crabs legs are moisst and delicious, with good-size chunks of crab meat. Crabs are as good as any in town, but tend to be on the pricey side if you're not getting one of their advertised specials. Check the Eldersburg Eagle for their intermittent ads with current prices and specials. Crabs are fresh and tasty, with good-sized crab meat for crabs of respective sizes.

The service is responsive and friendly, but spotty on details, leaving customers to sometimes having to ask for silverware and napkins. Tap beer selections are limited - only Coors Light and Killians are offered - but bottled beers are plentiful, both for dining and offsite sales. Kids are welcome but the youngest ones may have challenges. Many of the children's high chairs were dirty or had broken buckles. The children's meals are good values, including the perennial kid's favorite, chicken tenders and fries. The restaurant is a great place to take the family to feast on crabs, have a seafood feast, or a crabcake sandwich. It's definitely not date material or formal occassion friendly.

The carryout seafood market up front has a fantastic selection of great seafood. You can either walk in and order or call ahead for carryout. Fresh selections include shrimp, fish, crabs, oysters, clams, mussels, and more. Get your carryout as is or have them steam your food for you. A full selection of sauces, spices, and accessories make a home seafood feast complete.

What others are saying about Captain Dan's:

  > Best crabs I've had this side of the Bay Bridge. And Dan will always be honest about how they're running.
> I wasn't overly thrilled with Capt. Dan's. We are huge seafood lovers and I just felt things were average. Prices were definitly not something to brag about. The crabs didn't have enough seasoning and the girl forgot to put in the tarter sauce with the crab cake. On the plus side, we didn't have to wait in line (although there may be a reason for that).
> Best crabs around, however you want your crabs (light seasoning, regular or heavy) they will do that.
> Went to Captain Dan's for $1 crabs the other night. Don't go. The crabs were small not alot of meat in them and most of them had 1 or no claws. The crabs were not worth a dollar. The cream of crab soup didn't have alot of crab meat in it.
> Went to Captain Dan's for $1 crabs last week & waited an hour for a table(there must be a reason this place is so popular!).Well worth the wait. Crabs were small but full. Great service & the best seasoning we've had.
> Went to Captain Dan's last week. The service was horrible. It wasn't very crowded there and the waitress never refilled my drink. It was at the edge of the table empty for an hour and an half. The waitress only came to the table maybe twice in the hour and a half that we were there. Maybe I should have called her over to the table.
> Captain Dan's is fantastic!! We have lived in Randallstown for over 25 years and did not know the place existed. We bought a bushel of their river crabs at $200.00 over a year ago and they were well worth the price. We have been buying their river crabs ever since and would not go anywhere else for crabs. Sea king and Salernos can't match them in any way, shape or form. If you want good crabs at a good price go to Captain Dan's Submitted: Ron Lewis
> 1st rate crabs,I don't think a whole lot of reheating of crabs, unlike other CC crabhouses takes place here. Can't beat the dollar crabs. The service on the other hand could be better.
> Captain Dan's is by far one of the best places to visit in Eldersburg. The seafood is great and the service was friendly and welcoming. Dan is always open to listening to what customers have to say. Also the waitress I had was very curteous and sure to make sure I had a wonderful dining time. Thank you Captain Dan's!
> I wanted to write a little review mostly in disagreement what was previuosly said about the service @ Captain Dan's. I was there this past Saturday and must say that the service we received was more than pleasant. Our waitress was personable and efficient. We never waited for anything and even made some special requests that were recieved and done with a very friendly attitude. We had a 4 year old in our party and she was given prestine treatment. With the tasty crabs and great service we had a lovely evening.
> My boyfriend and I went there last night for dollar crabs and it was great. The seasoning on the crabs is awesome and I thought that the service was excellent. One of the servers told us there tends to be a wait at times, but we managed to get there right after another table had left so we were seated right away. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
> Very good. Great deal with the dollar crabs on mondays tuesdays and wednsdays!
> Went there to get shrimp. They brought out a bag of frozen shrimp and asked how we wanted it cooked. We could have done that ourselves for a lot less. Martin's seafood dept believe it or not has the best shrimp - may have been previously frozen but it's thawed - they cook it how you want it and they have deveined and easy-peel. Much better than "Captain Dan's". Eldersburg needs a good seafood restaurant - Captain Dan's and Salernos don't cut it.
> Great Food, GREAT service, nice people, and did I say GREAT food! What more could you want? The wood benches can be a bit 'rough' on the rump if you are staying for crabs, but with GREAT crabs the rump will only get a bit more padded for those benches. By far the BEST seafood within a 50 mile radius.
> Overpriced and they will give you rinky dink crabs even when you pay for much larger crabs. Will NEVER go back!
> awesome food, great employees, A+
> We were here recently and while the atmosphere was not bad (for a carry-out feel). The service was just so-so, the young kids behind the counter were chatting and not neccessarily moving on our order. It wasn't that bad, but I've been to much better.
> Been here several times and ordered off ghe menu. Haven't had a bad meal yet. Plus, they have excellent ribs! 04/18/08
> I come from Georgia to Maryland to visit family every year and Captain Dan's is at the top of my "To Do" list every time. The food is reasonably priced not to mention absolutely delicious; and, the service has always been top-notch! If you're visiting Eldersburg any time soon, make sure you visit Captain Dan's. You will not be disappointed.
> Arriving in Eldersburg, from South Hill, Virginia; I had to try some Maryland Crabs from Captain Dan's. Their web site said pricey, I didn't think the Males would be Sixty three dollars per dozen. As I sat on the deck of my cousin's home, overlooking the beautiful rolling hills of Eldersburg, eating the best crabs I have ever tasted, with my cousin eating an occasional crabs, we both had enough. Thanks Captain Dan's for a Super Eldersburg Crab Experience, and like Douglas MacArthur, I should return
