Looking
for a fun, exciting place to spend an evening by yourself, with
a friend, or with your family?
Come to Meiklejohn’s, formerly known as the Chop House. It
is conveniently located in one of the shopping center developed
along route 26 in Eldersburg, at the corner of Georgetown Boulevard,
behind Arby's. The formal, elegant restaurant of the past was transformed
into a more casual dining place for all.
Meiklejohn’s has an Irish feel to it, with the Corned Beef
and Cabbage and
Bangers and Mash on the menu. Other Irish-like elements include
the décor (a few faux bricks here and there, cast iron frames
and chandeliers, wooden booths) and music.
Families
has worked to make the atmosphere welcome to all, including families.
A children’s menu with coloring book and some crayons shows
they care.
Meiklejohn’s
menu is quite extensive, with many different choices of entrees,
soups, salads, sandwiches, and appetizers. The Nesse Burger from
the sandwich menu is mouth watering. I bet you’ve never had
your burger served on a pile of potatoes before. Well, this one
comes on a potato pancake, and is topped with a welsh cheese sauce
(which tastes somewhat mustardy) and fried onions. This sandwich,
which is not a sandwich at all, just like all of them, comes with
delicious homemade fries, coleslaw, and a pickle. PEANUT ALLERGY
warnings are posted all over the menu, since the restaurant uses
only peanut oil when cooking. It sure makes the fries taste fabulous!
Sandwiches make
up about a half of all dinner offerings at Meiklejohn’s. The
other half lists fancier entrees, like the New York Strip Steak
or Prime Rib. Go for the low priced, unique selections, like the
Shepard’s Pie or the Claddagh Sandwich. Not only will they
provide a one of a kind dining experience, but they won’t
strain your budget the way more expensive choices would. After all,
you go to Meiklejohn’s for the affordable, casual, but exceptional
dinner in Eldersburg. You might see your friends and neighbors in
this busy restaurant, which will make it even more familiar and
welcoming.
Keep
in mind, however, that Meiklejohn’s is a newly opened restaurant,
and, like all the new places, it’s working out all the “kinks”
right now. Your hostess’ skirt might be too short, your drinks
might be slow in coming, your waitress might have too many body
piercings for your taste, your service might be a bit sluggish,
your steak may be undercooked, and the drink prices might be slightly
inconsistent, but who cares?
No
one cares about the little things. Especially not after a few well
deserved drinks at the large Meiklejohn’s bar. Meiklejohn's
sports one of Eldersburg's few decent watering holes and entertainment
venues. This bar, the only smoking and truly smoky section in the
restaurant, should be the owner’s pride and joy. It is located
in the very back, right past the gorgeous bathrooms, leftover from
the Chop House days. The bar area is huge, scarcely lit, with lots
of room to mingle or listen to live music. Yes, Meiklejohn’s
offers live music! Rejoice! Live music in Eldersburg!!!
Whether
you come for food, drinks, music, or people; have fun at Meiklejohns,
that’s what it’s there for!!

What
others are saying about Meiklejohn's:
>
3/26/2007 Great Time! The food was some of the best food that I have had at any restaurant in awhile. And the service was top notch. The bartenders are fast and friendly as can be. Great spot can’t wait to go back.
>
1/15/2007 Food is way too salty. Revamped menu nice, but price increase especially on appetizers, way too much.
>
1/7/2007 You have to be a smoker or someone who doesn't mind the smell of smoke while you eat to eat here. My wife and I ate here one Saturday in Dec for lunch and the smoke finds its way from the back lounge to the front. We had the Monte Cristo and it wasn't very good - some people may like it. Cole slaw was terrible. Coke was watered down. Can't recommend it and we had high hopes. Eldersburg really needs a good restaurant.
>
Really good food without outrageous prices
>
Loved it
>
Good grub, but service gets spotty when it's busy.
