Restaurants and Dining Guide
Subway
Sandwiches - Wal*Mart
You
would suspect that restaurants within a chain would all be pretty
much the same, considering they all get the same rules, regulations,
and materials. Yet, with all the Subway restaurants I’ve been
to, I would have to say that the Subway in Wal-Mart is consistently
the best one to go to.
Since we have
two Subways in Eldersburg (the other one is east on Liberty Road,
next to the Liberty Bike Shop), lunchtime rushes are split in half
and the workers aren’t so hassled by the long lines. The staff
at the Subway in Wal-Mart are always kind, clean, and enjoying themselves
to some degree.
The
tables are set up neatly and there is never any debris from the
last customers.
The floors are cleaned and the back area for drinks is always tidy.
It’s an enjoyable place to just sit, eat your sub, and watch
the people traffic in Wal-Mart.
The
prices are the same as all other Subway locations. Anything you
order will be about $4 to $10, but since all their subs are made
right there in front of you and just how you like it, I think it’s
worth it.
As
their slogan suggests, everything is fresh. Behind the glass, rows
of freshly chopped lettuce, tomatoes, radishes, and peppers are
stacked neatly next to other sub toppings, all of them colorful
and looking delicious. The gentleman making my ham and swiss sub
handled all of the ingredients with care and put them together with
love (although I may be mistaking love with slow precaution of a
new employee). He cleaned off each tool he used and made sure he
wasn’t cross-contaminating – always something nice to
see while someone is making your meal.
The cashier
was quick, but laid back most of the time. It was understandable
though; they had just been through the lunch rush and there wasn’t
anything that really needed to be done, it seemed. Why do busy work
when you can regain energy?
My sub was delicious,
as usual. Toasted a bit more than the other Subway shops I’ve
found, but I like it that way because it melts the cheese and keeps
it warm the whole way home. My lunch buddy, however, wasn’t
so much of a fan of the extra toasting, so if you’re not into
that either, make a note about it. He had the grilled teriyaki chicken,
which he said had “tasty bread, succulent, marinated chicken,
and fresh, as always, toppings.” He has also had consistently
good experiences with Subway.
For
safe food at a decent price and a welcoming facility, the Subway
in Wal-Mart is the way to go.
