E-Burg Word on the Street
By Jay-Burg
August 18, 2006
This is the weekly source for all the unofficial stuff that may not be in Eldersburg Print. I'm Jay-Burg, local resident, worker bee, and connoisseur of everything E-Burg.

Salerno's City - Salerno's is proposing to move its restaurant to a new building complex at Johnsville Road and Freedom Avenue, which would include the restaurant, banquet hall, office, and retail space. This past week Salerno's owner Bruce Reamer presented the concept plans to the county, which is just the first stage of getting needed approvals. According to the Planning and Zoning office, a few of the concerns included neighbor's issues with on-street parking and the size of the restaurant. Bruce Reamer addressed the South Carroll Business Association Wednesday and shared his challenges with the approval process, but added that he did not foresee any major hurdles in getting final approvals. More information available here.

Got Bread - Panera Bread opened in the Freedom Village Center this past week, giving the end retail space a definite upgrade in appearance and usefulness. The Bakery-Cafe is beautiful inside and offers a wide variety of sandwiches, soups, salads, breads, bagels, and drinks. The food is excellent and already getting rave reviews including "mmmmmCarbsss...."

Dig Doug - If the number of political lawn signs are any indication, it looks like local Eldersburgite Doug Howard is Eldersburg's leading choice for Carroll County Commissioner, of which there are twelve running in the pack. Doug Howard, owner of BDG Entrepreneurial services, originally filed for his candidacy when expecting to represent just the South Carroll district. More about Doug and his campaign at http://www.doughowardforcarroll.com

That's Amante - The old Ya-Ya's restaurant location is being transformed into what will become Amante Pizza & Pasta, serving pizza, pasta, calzones, and fresh brews. The restaurant is using the name and concept of a multi-location chain from Washington state; to get a better flavor of what's coming, check out http://www.amantepizzaandpasta.com
